Hurricane Helene Travel Info

On September 27th Hurricane Helene moved through North Carolina and Tennessee dumping mass amounts of water that caused major flooding in many areas. We are using this page to keep people updated on the conditions of Sevier, surrounding counties, and the Smoky Mountain National Park.

Sevier County only received 5 – 8 inches of rainfall during the storm which our rivers could handle. We did have a few small mudslides and Douglas Lake and the French Broad River levels have risen above normal with only light flooding.  Sevier County is open and ready for all of our fall visitors.

Smoky Mountain National Park did receive 8-15 inches, more on the NC side. Most areas of the park are closed including Hwy 441 between Gatlinburg and Cherokee which is expected to reopen on 10/7/24. Cades Cove is still accessible to visitors.
