Southern Style Biscuits


  • 1 1/4 C self-rising flour
  • 1/4 C shortening
  • Buttermilk


  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Cut shortening into flour with pastry knife or fork until there are no clumps larger then a pea. Pour in just enough buttermilk to make the flour wet. Place dough onto well floured surface.
  2. Gently fold dough with flour until its no longer sticky. Pat out dough gently by hand until abut 1 inch think. Cut out biscuits with a standard biscuit cutter or you can use a glass. Place on a greased cookie sheet and place in oven on center rack and back until golden brown, about 10 - 15 min. remove and brush with butter.
